Destination Blackfoot Named Finalist at 2026 International Indigenous Tourism Conference

Destination Blackfoot was recognized as a finalist for the Alberta Provincial Indigenous Tourism Leadership Award during the 2026 International Indigenous Tourism Conference (IITC), held February 17–19 in Edmonton, AB.

The conference was hosted by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada in partnership with Indigenous Tourism Alberta, Explore Edmonton, and Travel Alberta. The annual gathering brings together Indigenous tourism operators, organizations, and industry leaders from across Canada and internationally to discuss sector growth, partnerships, and innovation in Indigenous-led tourism.

During the conference Destination Blackfoot was recognized as a finalist for the Alberta Provincial Indigenous Tourism Leadership Award, an award that recognizes an Indigenous community within Alberta that is demonstrating leadership in tourism as a tool for community well-being, cultural preservation, economic opportunity, and sustainable development.

Participation in the 2026 International Indigenous Tourism Conference provided an opportunity for Destination Blackfoot representatives to learn from other Indigenous tourism leaders, exchange ideas on sustainable tourism practices, and strengthen relationships with national and international partners working to grow Indigenous tourism.

Destination Blackfoot continues to promote tourism experiences across Blackfoot Territory, supporting Blackfoot entrepreneurs, guides, artists, and cultural practitioners who share their knowledge and stories with visitors.
